CO2RE laser

A common development product of two leading producers of esthetic medicine equipment – American SyneronMedicalLtd and Canadian CandelaCorporation.

CO2RE laser is a multifunctional high-performance system providing simultaneous action on both deep and surface skin layers while controlling intensity, depth and scheme of ablation (in other words, laser impulse removal).

CO2RE fractional laser is used for I-III Fitzpatrick skin phototype:

Skin type I – Celtic. These people usually have blond or red hair, blue or green eyes, fair skin often with freckles. This type of skin burns fast in the sun and almost never tans.

Skin type II – Nordic or Arian. They have blond, fair or light-brown hair, hazel, green or blue eyes, fair skin, seldom with freckles. The skin tans poorly, often gets sunburnt;

Skin type III – Dark European. People of this type have light-brown or dark-brown hair, often hazel or grey eyes, darker white skin. It seldom gets sunburnt, tans easily.

Procedures performed with CO2RE laser:

  1. Fractional photothermolysis (laser skin resurfacing);
  2. Correction of moderate and deep wrinkles;
  3. Skin lift;
  4. Scar revision;
  5. Skin texture smoothing;
  6. Minor surgical procedures.

CO2RE laser gives well-targeted treatment to the skin, helps to quickly achieve predictable results with minimum discomfort.

Fractional photothermolysis (laser skin resurfacing) is used for correction of aging changes of the skin eliminating minor wrinkles, removing scars, making the skin look younger and healthier.

CO2RE fractional laser delivers an intense light stream of a certain wavelength, while its intensity is controlled by a computer. Resurfacing depth is set in accordance with a skin type and problem to be treated. The substructure is minimally affected. The procedure is performed under local or general anesthesia. Right after the procedure a patient might experience stinging for some time, the skin gets red, tissue fluid is exuded, some pinpoint bleeding is possible. These conditions can continue for several days. A normal reaction to the trauma such as skin swelling appears right after the procedure. It’s temporary and lasts for 5-7 days. A patient might experience skin dryness (tightened skin), in this case moisturizing creams and thermal water are recommended. After the procedure special ointment is applied to the laser-treated skin areas that must be used for two more weeks following the surgery. The skin will be red during this period, and its color will be getting more natural within the next 2-4 weeks. Some patients might suffer from skin redness for a longer period. The skin remains hypersensitive to environmental factors for up to two months so one must use sun protection with at least SPF 50.

In some cases, one procedure is not enough (scar revision, deep wrinkles) and it must be repeated (up to 3 times) with a 2-3-month interval. Rejuvenated skin effect lasts for a few years.

Laser skin resurfacing rarely has complications, however, they are possible to appear.

Possible compilations:

  1. Change of skin pigmentation. Some spots with increased or decreased pigment number can appear in some areas after the skin recovery. As a rule, this complication appears when the treated skin is exposed to the UV light, especially of dark-skin people, sometimes due to individual characteristic of the patient. That’s why one must avoid direct sun and UV light on the treated area for 6 months and use protection with at least SPF 50 outside.
  2. Scar formation. A chance of scar formation after the laser skin resurfacing procedure is very low. This complication is possible for people with genetic predisposition to hypertrophic and keloid scars being a contra-indication to the procedure.
  3. Herpetic infection exacerbation. Dermic inflammation. After removal of the surface skin layer protecting the skin the treated areas are hypersensitive to infectious matters and other environmental factors that might cause inflammation, onset or exacerbation of herpetic infection. In this case a doctor prescribes antiviral, antibacterial or other drugs – to prevent or treat the complications.
  4. Eyes damage. A laser beam can damage eyes during the procedure, that’s why a patient must stay with eyes closed.
  5. Allergy reactions. Some medicine and cosmetic products are used during the procedure, as well as before and after the surgery. They might cause allergy reactions due to individual sensibility of every person and can’t be predicted beforehand. The treatment is prescribed if needed.

A patient must immediately contact his or her doctor and come to the clinic as soon as possible for examination and treatment in case of any complications.

RECOMMENDATIONS

A preparation for the fractional photothermolysis (laser skin resurfacing) procedure starts 3-5 days before the surgery:

The skin must have no intense tan;

  1. Acyclovir – 1 pill (200 mg) 4 times per day after meal.
  2. Other drugs prescribed by the doctor.
  3. For pigmentation prevention: Skinoren cream applied at night for 7-10 days.

 After the fractional photothermolysis (laser skin resurfacing) procedure:

  1. Drugs:

— Acyclovir – 1 pill (200 mg) 4 times per day after meal for 3-5 days;

— Kestine or Parlazin – 1 pill 1 time per day for 5 days;

— Valeriana (pills) – 2 pills 1 time per day for 5 days;

— Pain killers: Analgin 0.5g – 1 pill 3-4 times per day or Spasmalgon – 1 pill 2 times per day, or depending on the pain syndrome.

Other drugs can be prescribed upon the patient’s indications.

  1. Skin treatment after the fractional photothermolysis (laser skin resurfacing) procedure:

First week

— In the morning and evening – washing with water with household soap or water with table vinegar (1 tsp. per a glass of water). After the washing – use thermal water and apply Bepanthen ointment.

— prevent ointment from drying out, apply 3-6 times per day if needed.

— Use thermal water every year between washings to moisturize the skin. IT’S STRICLTY PROHIBITED to let the skin dry out and skin crust appear. The skin must be moisturized (under the ointment layer).

  1. Starting from week 2 one can use moisturizing creams, make-up.
  2. One must avoid exposure of the treated skin areas to UV light for 6 months, MUST USE SUN PROTECTION WITH AT LEAST SPF 50 OUTSIDE. While staying for a long time outside, apply sun protection every 3-4 hours.

An approximate price for laser skin resurfacing is from 230.00 BYN to 1600.00 BYN. A doctor will tell you the exact price at your consult after evaluating the workscope.
