Indications

Skin aging processes are caused by its loss of elasticity and gravitation. That’s how brows, upper and lower eyelids, cheeks, chin are going down. Not only face skin but neck skin as well shows its signs of aging. It becomes saggy, horizontal wrinkles appear, an angle between the chin and neck becomes flatter and even disappear sometimes. However, some other factors also affect the skin condition, such as bad habits, poor environment, defect of internals, genetic background.

The facelift procedure is usually performed on patients between 45-78 years but sometimes it’s recommended for younger people whose face skin become sagging due to significant weight loss or premature ageing. Thus, rhytidectomy is performed in case of poor skin elasticity, excess face skin, cheeks and chin sagging, general skin sagginess after weight loss, lowering of eye corners and lips, deep wrinkles on the face and neck, double chin.

Facelift procedure

Face and/or neck lift is a long procedure performed under general anesthesia. Local anesthesia might be used in case of lifting of separate zones. Incisions are made on the hairy part of the head, the skin is separated, lifted, its excess is removed. The procedure is more effective with SMAS (superficial muscular aponeurotic system) lifting or liposuction.

  1. Lifting of the upper third of the face. It’s performed for smoothing folds on the forehead, nose bridge, correcting lowered outer eye corners, brow hanging. In case of forehead and temples skin lifting, an incision is made along the hairline for people with a high forehead or more often a little deeper behind the hairline. Being of an arched or wavy shape, it goes from one ear to the other.
  2. Lifting of the middle third of the face. In this case the access location for the surgery depends on the area to be corrected. An incision is made in the temple area and continues behind the ear in case of cheek lifting.
  3. Lifting of the lower third of the face. This surgery smooths wrinkles and smile lines, tightens cheeks and chin skin up. An incision is made in the natural creases surrounding the ear.

Post-op rehabilitation after the facelift

The patient generally remains in the clinic to be monitored by professional medical personnel for one day after the rhytidectomy. A tight bandage is applied after the surgery; it’s removed in two days. Swelling and bruises are natural effects after this plastic procedure, they intensify on the second-third day and gradually recede afterwards. Stiches are removed in 10-12 days. Hair washing is allowed in a week after the facelift surgery, hair dying – in 1 month. A patient can use make-up in 1 week after the procedure. One must avoid sports activities for 6 weeks, sun-tanning and sauna – for 4 weeks.

Results of the performed rhytidectomy procedure can be rated in 2-3 months when all the swelling is finally gone. Our patients look 8-10 years younger to our greatest pleasure. Duration of the facelift procedure results depends on the work of the surgeon, as well as an initial skin condition, age of the patient, presence of bad habits, lifestyle, genetic background. The time of another surgery can be postponed if one regularly undergoes medical facial procedures (lymphatic massage, mesotherapy).
